Requirements/Artifacts Traceability and Life Cycle with VeroTrace

Traceability between requirements and their supporting artifacts is at the core of DO-178B.  The ability to track and maintain the life cycle baseline of artifacts (design, code, tests, results and their reviews) is also crucial to DO-178B development processes.

Verocel has developed its own tool VeroTrace, to manage requirement and artifact traceability throughout the software verification life cycle.

There are many requirement development and traceability tools available. Some claim to be the first or only DO-178B-based tools on the market. Those that make these claims were neither first nor are they unique.  Most tools were not designed with DO-178B in mind and are much generalized. They provide varying levels of traceability between requirements and artifacts, and varying levels of integration with the Configuration Management (CM) system that maintains the baseline of artifacts.

VeroTrace offers unparalleled requirement traceability and artifact management support.

With VeroTrace, traceability is saturated. All useful paths of traceability are maintained with VeroTrace.

The saturated traceability provided by VeroTrace allows VeroTrace to provide finely detailed impact analysis when modifying baselined artifacts.

VeroTrace is integrated with your CM system so that it not only knows the name of each artifact, but also its CM location; its current state in the development life cycle; and exactly which baselined version is associated with each artifact.

VeroTrace allows you to track the life cycle of your requirements and artifacts. You review requirements and artifacts online in VeroTrace. Review checklists of your own design are generated directly from VeroTrace and can be automatically checked into your CM system.

VeroTrace can generate many different reports, checklists, and documents from the data it maintains in its database and its knowledge of the location and life cycle state of each artifact. Requirement specification documents, linked requirement traceability mapping documents, derived requirement reports, and requirement and artifact checklists are just a few of the type of documents that can be generated from VeroTrace.

VeroTrace also allows you to produce, manage, and deliver all the data that supports a software certification project.  It combines requirements, CM baselined artifacts, and all review checklists with auto-generated HTML traceability information creating what is, essentially, a local website that hyperlinks all life cycle traceability data.

At Verocel, we use VeroTrace to track dozens of our active projects simultaneously. Without it, we would be crushed under the weight of requirements and objectives of the safety critical standards comprising the projects we support.
